Markets extend gains in noon trades

The Sensex has extended gains and is now up 386 points at 16,550 and the Nifty has added 117 points at 4,947.

Markets are off the day's high.

The Sensex after opening in green surged to a high of 16,498. However, the index has pared some of its gains and is now up 310 points at 16,473.

The Nifty is up 100 points at 4,931.

Sterlite has gained 5% to Rs 769. HDFC has added 3% to Rs 2,490. Tata Steel has advanced 2.7% to Rs 588. Other metal stock - Hindalco has moved up 2.2% at Rs 155.

DLF and Larsen & Toubro have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 335 and Rs 1,429, respectively.

Tata MOtors, ONGC, NTPC, Hero Honda, Grasim and ICICI Bank have added 2% each. The other gainers include Infosys, HDFC Bank and ITC.

The BSE market breadth continues to be positive. Out of 2,703 stocks traded, 1,861 have advanced while 768 have declined.
