MMTC floats bids for import of 37,000 tn of pulses

State-owned trading firm MMTC has invited bids for the import of 37,000 tonne of pulses for sale in the domestic market.

The bid will close on May 27 and a decision on awarding the contract will be taken on the same day, the company said on its website.

The company said that the bidders should source 6,000 tonne of black matpe (urad) from Myanmar, 3,000 tonne each of desi chick peas (chana) from Australia and Pigeon Peas (arhar) from Myanmar.

The bidders also have to source 25,000 tonne of yellow peas from Canada, it added.

Black matpe and pigeon peas should be from the current crop year, while the other pulses of 2010-11 year, it said, adding that the shipment should reach Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai ports by June-July 2011.

Bids should be made for a minimum quantity of 10,000 tonne for Yellow Peas and 3,000 tonne for other Pulses, the company said.

STC, PEC and other state-run trading agencies like MMTC import different varieties of pulses on behalf of the government to augment domestic supply.
