Pre-Market: Stocks to watch in trade on Thursday

PVR Ltd, RCOM, Glenmark Pharma, Syndicate Bank and Tata Power are likely to be in the limelight in this trading session.

Here are a few stocks that are likely to be in focus today:

PVR Ltd is likely to see action as it is set to acquire DT Cinemas, the wholly-owned subsidiary of DLF that owns theatre screens in the vicinity of Delhi, according to media reports.

Reliance Communications is likely to be on the buyer's radar on buzz that it is in talks for a possible takeover of Sistema Shyam Teleservices (SSTL) in an all-stock deal.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals may be active on the bourses as the Reserve Bank of India has permitted foreign institutional investors (FIIs) to buy up to 49% stake in the pharma company.

Syndicate Bank is planning to raise up to Rs 5,550 crore from a mix of equity and bond to meet its capital requirements, news reports suggest.

Tata Power posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 159.14 crore for the January-March quarter of 2014-15 against a loss of Rs 145.33 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

Pidilite Industries reported 10.34% rise in consolidated profit at Rs 80.64 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2015.

Sonata Software posted Rs.134 crore consolidated net profit for 2014-15, as against Rs.78 crore in the previous fiscal, registering a growth of 72%.

MARKET COMMENTARY

The markets are likely to open in the green in line with the positive cues from the Asian front. The Nifty may reclaim its crucial psychological level of 8,400, which it had scaled in intra-day trades on Tuesday, before succumbing to a bout of profit-booking and closing just above the technically crucial 8,350 mark at 8,365.

The markets had ended flat on in the previous session, snapping two successive days of gains.

Among corporate earnings, Tata Steel will unveil its Q4 numbers during the day.

GLOBAL MARKETS

The US stocks ended mixed, with the Dow rising marginally to a second straight record high, as Wall Street digested housing data. The Dow Jones rose 13 points to end at 18,312, while the S&P ended down 1 point at 2,127 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 8 points to 5,070.

On the Asian front, Nikkei 225 was trading higher by 0.63% at 20,151 and Shanghai index was trading higher by 0.67% at 4,457, while Hang Seng was trading lower by 0.24% at 27,625. The Kospi, SET and Jakarta indices are also trading higher between 0.5% and 1% each.
