Markets ended the day lower, owing to selling pressure in oil and auto shares. Weak global cues took the Sensex to a low of 19,542. The index ended (provisional) at 19,625 down 135 points. Nifty ended down 47 points at 5,939.

Asian markets were in the red this afternoon. Investors took profits from recent Asian share rallies in the face of uncertainty over how much longer the current U.S. stimulus would continue, while data underscoring the fragility of China's economy weighed on oil. Nikkei shed 3.7% or 513 points to end at 13,262. Hang Seng, Taiwan Weighted and Kospi ended lower by half a per cent each.
