Rangebound Sensex ends flat

The Sensex opened on a silent note at 17,186, tracking weak global cues. The index thereafter gyrated between zones amid alternate bouts of buying and selling. The BSE benchmark index touched a high of 17,195, and a low of 17,060.

The Sensex finally ended flat at 17,134, up eight points. The NSE Nifty ended flat at 5,083.

Among the sectoral gainers, TECk and IT indices were the maximum gainers, up over1% each. On the other hand the healthcare index slipped 1% to 4,347.

The market breadth was negative, out of 2,868 shares traded, 1,663 declined and 1,123 advanced on the BSE.

INDEX MOVERS...

Bharti Airtel was the maximum gainer, zoomed 4% to Rs 435. Reliance Communication soared 3% to Rs 318.

ICICI Bank and TCS advanced over 2% each to Rs 924 and Rs 632, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, BHEL and ONGC were up 1% each.

...AND THE SHAKERS

Maruti and HDFC shed around 3% to Rs 1,651 and Rs 2,699, respectively.

Grasim, Tata Power, Hero Honda, Tata Motors, Hindalco, NTPC, Reliance and Larsen & Toubro declined 1-2.5% each.

VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS

Bharti Airtel  topped the combined value chart with a turnover of Rs 1,805 crore. It was followed by Unitech (Rs 874 crore), Reliance (Rs 777 crore) and DLF (Rs 689 crore).

Ispat Industries topped the volume chart with trades of 109 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (49 million), 3IInfotech (49 million) and NIIT (31 million shares).
