Sensex ends down 252pts

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) at 14,270, down 252 points.

The Sensex, after a brief recovery, slipped back and is now at 14,356, down 165 points.

The Sensex slipped deeper into the red to touch a low of 14,333, down 335 points from the day's high.

The index is now down 180 points at 14,341.

The BSE Oil & Gas index is down 2.5% at 9,139.

Mahindra & Mahindra has shed 4.5% to Rs 705.

Reliance, Tata Power, Ranbaxy and Tata Motors have dropped over 3% each to Rs 1,966, Rs 1,126, Rs 271 and Rs 335, respectively.

Reliance Infrastructure, NTPC, Hindalco and TCS are down over 2.5% each.

ICICI Bank has gained 3% at Rs 736. ITC is up 1% at Rs 202.

The market breadth has turned negative - out of 2,578 shares traded, 1,407 have declined and 1,109 have advanced so far on the BSE.
