Sensex ends up 259pts

The Sensex finally ended (provisional) at 14,525 , up 259 points.

The Sensex continues to extend gains and is now up 282 points at 14,548.

The Sensex has spurted over 150 points to 14,420 on the back of fresh buying in the markets.

The BSE Capital Goods and the IT indices are up around 2% each.

Tata Steel has soared 4% to Rs 404.

Tata Motors has advanced 3.5% to Rs 340. Larsen & Toubro and Infosys have gained over 2.5% each at Rs 1,457 and Rs 1,765, respectively.

Grasim, Reliance Infrastructures, ITC and Maruti are up 1.5% each.

NTPC has slipped 4% to Rs 194.

Hindalco, ONGC and ACC have dropped 3% each to Rs 84, Rs 981 and Rs 736, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Reliance are down 2% each at Rs 724 and Rs 1,991, respectively.

The market breadth remains negative - out of 2,644 shares traded, 1,652 have declined and 916 have advanced so far on the BSE.
