The Sensex opened 58 points higher at 9,382, but soon slipped into red to a low of 9,305. The index is now down 21 points at 9,303.
Sterlite has soared 4% to Rs 270, and Jaiprakash Associates has surged nearly 3% to Rs 68.
ACC and Hindalco have moved up nearly 2% each to Rs 510 and Rs 51, respectively.
Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro are up 1% each at Rs 206 and Rs 724, respectively.
ICICI Bank has dropped 3.3% to Rs 410. Mahindra & Mahindra and DLF have slipped nearly 3% each to Rs 315 and Rs 190, respectively.
HDFC and Tata Motors have shed nearly 3% each at Rs 1,522 and Rs 149, respectively.
Infosys and Maruti are down around 2% each at Rs 1,242 and Rs 578, respectively.
