The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 112 points at 10,916, and touched a high of 10,994. The index is now up 116 points at 10,920.
Tata Steel has surged 5.5% to Rs 276. HDFC Bank has rallied over 4% to Rs 1,090.
ICICI Bank and Tata Motors have gained around 3.5% each at Rs 412 and Rs 233, respectively.
Sterlite has moved up over 3% to Rs 409. SBI has added 2.7% to Rs 1,171.
Sun Pharma, BHEL, Hindalco and Reliance Communications are the other major gainers.
Reliance Infrastructure however has shed nearly 2% at Rs 641.
