Sensex pares gains, up 124pts; HDFC slips 2%

The Sensex opened 132 points higher at 9,822. Fresh buying in openig trades saw the index rally to a high of 9,948. The index has now pared some gains and is now up 124 points at 9,814.

Hindalco has zoomed 9% to Rs 58. Grasim and Tata Steel have soared 7% each to Rs 1,150 and Rs 233, respectively.

Sterlite has surged nearly 6% to Rs 310, and Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied 5% to Rs 307.

ONGC has moved up 4% to Rs 672. ICICI Bank has advanced over 3% to Rs 425.

HDFC has plunged over 2% to Rs 1,600, and Reliance Communications has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 245.
