Sensex recovers partially; Ranbaxy gains 4%

The Sensex opened with a significant negative gap of 365 points at 9,755 on the back of negative cues from the US markets. The index slipped deeper into red and touched a low of 9,648 in early trade. The index, however, has recovered partially and is now down 287 points at 9,833.

Tata Steel and Tata Motors have slumped 7% each to Rs 200 and Rs 168, respectively. Tata Power has plunged 6% to Rs 700.

Sterlite has shed 5.7% at Rs 253. Satyam has dropped 4.7% to Rs 266.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindalco and Reliance have slipped nearly 4% each to Rs 361, Rs 59 and Rs 1,221, respectively.

Maruti has dropped over 3.5% to Rs 594. Reliance Infastructure, ICICI Bank and DLF are down 3.3% each at Rs 503, Rs 437 and Rs 256, respectively.

Ranbaxy has surged over 4% to Rs 214. Hindustan Unilever has moved up 1.5% to Rs 242.
