The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 102 points at 8,600. The index tumbled to a low of 8,475, but soon rebounded and touched a high of 8,739. The index, however, tumbled back into red and is now down 561 points at 8,140.
Tata Power has plummeted 12% to Rs 550. Wipro and SBI have slumped 11.5% each to Rs 208 and Rs 1,026, respectively.
TCS has tumbled 9.8% to Rs 442. NTPC has shed 9% at Rs 119.
Tata Steel, HDFC Bank and DLF have plunged around 8% each to Rs 164, Rs 897 and Rs 188, respectively.
Grasim has slipped over 7% to Rs 977. ACC, Tata Motors, ONGC, Jaiprakash Associates, Ranbaxy and Larsen & Toubro are down around 6.5% each.
