Sensex up 506pts; Sterlite zooms 11%

The Sensex opened 232 points higher at 11,635, following the surge in Asian markets this morning.

The index thereafter rallied smartly to a high of 11,965, up 562 points from the previous close.

The index is now up 506 points (4.5%) at 11,910.

Sterlite has zoomed 11% to Rs 455. HDFC has soared over 9% to Rs 1,893.

TCS has surged 8.5% to Rs 676. Hindalco, Tata Steel and Wipro have rallied 8% each to Rs 58, Rs 257 and Rs 356, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro has advanced 7% to Rs 940. Jaiprakash Associates, ICICI Bank, SBI and Mahindra & Mahindra have gained 6% each.

Reliance Infrastructure, HDFC Bank, Infosys, ITC, Tata Motors, ONGC, Reliance, DLF, Tata Power and BHEl have added 3-5% each.

The market breadth is fairly positive. Out of 2,126 stocks traded, 1,504 have advanced and 561 have declined.
