Sensex up 60pts; Tata Steel soars 8%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 112 points at 10,916, and touched a high of 10,994. The index thereafter slipped to a low of 10,801, and is now up 60 points at 10,864.

Tata Steel has soared over 8% to Rs 283. Sterlite and HDFC Bank have surged over 5.5% each to Rs 419 and Rs 1,103, respectively.

ICICI Bank and Tata Motors have rallied nearly 5% each to Rs 417 and Rs 236, respectively.

SBI has gained 4.5% at Rs 1,192. Mahindra  & Mahindra has moved up 3% to Rs 448.

Jaiprakash Associates, Hindalco and Reliance Communications have advanced around 2.5% each to Rs 117, Rs 60 and Rs 217, respectively.

Maruti, DLF and Sun Pharma are the other major gainers.

Larsen & Toubro and Wipro have tumbled around 4% each to Rs 796 and Rs 264, respectively.

TCS has shed 3% at Rs 585. Hindustan Unilever and Infosys have dropped 2.5% each to Rs 227 and Rs 1,393, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, ONGC and HDFC are the other major losers.
