The Sensex is now up 96 points at 9786. Earlier in the day, the index opened 132 points higher at 9,822, and touched a high of 9,948. The index, thereafter, pared gains and slipped to a low of 9,749.
Grasim has zoomed over 7% to Rs 1,151. Hindalco has soared 6% to Rs 56.
Tata Steel has surged 4.5% to Rs 228. Larsen & Toubro and Sterlite have rallied around 4% each to Rs 819 and Rs 304, respectively.
ONGC has moved up 3.5% to Rs 669. HDFC Bank and Satyam have moved up 2.7% each to Rs 946 and Rs 227, respectively.
Reliance Communications has tumbled nearly 3% to Rs 242. TCS and Tata Power have shed 2.7% each at Rs 469 and Rs 731, respectively.
HDFC has slipped 1.6% at Rs 1,610, and ITC is down over 1% at Rs 171.
