Stocks individual investors bought and dumped in Q3, shows data

Individual investors’ holdings in National Stock Exchange-listed companies touched a new record during the quarter ended October-December (third quarter, or Q3) 2021-22 (FY22) amid push-back from investors.

High networth individuals (HNIs) – or those holding shares worth more than Rs 2 lakh - saw their shareholding increase 14 basis points (bps) quarter-on-quarter to 2.26 per cent, according to PRIME Infobase.

In value terms, HNI holdings rose 8.37 per cent to Rs 5.9 trillion. Infosys, Tata Teleservices Maharashtra, and Brightcom saw the highest increase in HNI holdings in absolute terms, while Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bajaj Auto saw the highest decrease.


In percentage terms, Banaras Beads (16.18 percentage points, or ppt), Jyoti Structures (10.16 ppt), and Patel Integrated Logistics (8.98 ppt) saw the highest increase, while Lyka Labs (minus 22.73 ppt), Inventure Growth & Securities (minus 14.31 ppt), and Goldstone Technologies (minus 12.34 ppt) saw the highest decrease.

Meanwhile, retail shareholders — or those holding shares worth up to Rs 2 lakh - saw their holding increase 19 bps to 7.32 per cent in Q3FY22. In value terms, the holding rose nearly Rs 19 trillion.

Tata Power, Tata Motors, and Infosys saw the highest increase in retail holding in absolute terms during the quarter, while Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries, and HDFC Bank saw the highest decrease.

In percentage terms, Onelife Capital Advisors (21 ppt), Libas Consumer Products (17.18 ppt), and Inventure Growth & Securities (12.27 ppt) saw the highest increase, while Jyoti Structures (minus 38.48 ppt), Goldstone Technologies (minus 13.55 ppt), and UFO Moviez India (minus 12.83 ppt) saw the highest decrease.
