To check huge imports of soyabean oil, the government is planning to buy only the non-genetically modified oil and ask the exporting country to certify that the commodity was non-GMO.

It is also considering putting in place tariff reserve quotas (TRQ) for the commodity.

Imports of soyabean oil has surged since the Centre increased the customs duty on palmolien and crude palm oil, sources told Business Standard.
