Technology shares helped the Nasdaq to gain after positive broker comments on Qualcomm while the losses in the financial shares made the Dow and the S&P 500 slip.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell seven points to 8,497. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down one point at 910.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 12 points to 1,808.
The Indian ADRs ended on a mixed note on Wednesday.
Satyam plunged 8% to $3.6. Tata Motors shed 4% to $9.16.
HDFC Bank, Sterlite and Tata Communications slipped over 2.5% each to $100.02, $12.41 and $19.53, respectively.
Wipro and ICICI Bank were flat at $11.52 and 29.82, respectively.
Dr Reddy's advanced 3.5% to $15.02.
Genpact, Patni Computers and MTNL added 2% each to $11.16, $10.18 and 4.47, respectively.
Infosys was up 1% at $35.21
