We at MotorOctane do not believe in sales number difference for luxury cars, as it more of an emotional connect for buyers in this segment. However, we need to keep our readers abreast of the latest happenings. As per the global sales numbers, BMW is the leading luxury car manufacturer with 1,811,719 units, more than Audi's 1,741,100 units and Mercedes-Benz at 1,650,010.

This is a BMW's best-ever sale as the German carmaker has seen a growth of 9.5 percent over the last year. December has been a good month for BMW as it sold 177,954 units with an increase of 14.2 percent over the last year. This year BMW introduced several new products like the X4, 2 Series Active Tourer and 2 Series Coupe. The i range of vehicles have done as the i3 and i8 sold 16,052 units and 1,741 units respectively.

Mercedes-Benz saw a hike of 12.9 percent in its sales in 2014 at 1,650,010 units. The MFA-platform cars like A, B, CLA and GLA contributed more than one-fourth of the sales and S-Class was highest selling luxury car. The new-generation C-Class was the biggest selling model.

On the other hand, Audi saw an increase in sales of 10.5 percent. The new A3 family and its SUVs accelerated its sales numbers. The Q range contributed to about one-third of Audi's global sales with majority being the Q3 and Q5 as the new generation isn't too far from its global unveiling. In the last month of the year, Audi sold 150,000 units. With many more products on its way, Audi and Mercedes-Benz will be looking at gaining back the number 1 spot.
