India-Bound Mercedes-Benz GLS revealed

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new premium SUV - the GLS in Europe. The GLS is essentially the GL with a new nomenclature and a minor facelift. Mercedes-Benz has positionedthis seven-seater SUV asthe 'S-Class among SUVs'.


TheGLSboasts ample spaciousness and combines luxury with impressive levels of comfort, agile dynamics and also best-in-class safety. Compared toits predecessor, the new generation features improved efficiency, extended Dynamic Selecttransmission modes, the latest stage of development of the air suspension system AIRMATIC with enhanced damping system ADS, the nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, state-of-the-art assistance systems and the latest telematics generation with internet access.

TheMercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC will also be offered. This has a peak output of 585 bhp, independent suspension and the revised AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, it represents the pinnacle of the GLS model series. Features which come as standard on-board include the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, which provide optimum flexibility, and the rear-biased AMG Performance all-wheel drive. The GLS 63 4MATIC also shows strength of character with its updated design featuring the AMG brand look and high-quality interior.

The GLS has a length of 5130mm, width of 1934 mm and height of 1850mm. The wheelbase is 3075mm. It also gets a new exterior and revised interiors. On the exterior there is anew front end front end, while at the rear, the bumper and tail lights ahem been restyled. The interior includes the newly designed instrument panel with semi-integrated Media Display, a new 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a modified centre console with touchpad and also new colours and trim elements.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS deliveries will start post March 2016 in Europe and it will make its way into India sometime in late 2016.
