The news has been confirmed by the South American headand Caribbean Coordinatorfor Toyota - Mr. Luiz Carlos Andrade. He shared that the Toyota Etios shall indeed receive a new engine as part of the model year 2016 facelift, but it shall continue to be offered in 1.3 litre and 1.5 litre displacements as before. An Aisin made five-speed manual transmission will continue to do duty on both engine variants. There are no plans currently towards an automatic transmission being offered as an option at present. No other details such as the model code for the new engines or even their power output figures were revealed. It is estimated that the 1.3 litre engined Etios shall come in 90 bhp, 126 Nm torque guise, while the larger displacement 1.5 litre variant will see power and torque bumped up to 96 bhp and 136 Nm respectively.
The new engines are most likely to be assembled at the new Toyota factory in Porto Feliz, which goes live in early 2016.It already has over 180 employees working their currently, with plans to up the strength to 340 employees as production progresses and demand for engines scales up in the new calendar year. So far, there has been no indication on the facelift and new engine variants being offered on the Toyota Etios sold here in India. However, it is only a matter of time, as Toyota would be keen to introduce the refreshed variants here in order to boost sales in the domestic market.
