One Direction has been blasted by a UK-based charity called Wild Futures, for using a chained up chimpanzee in their video of 'Steal My Girl.'
The charity was disgusted at the behind the scenes photos that showed the members of the boy band playing with a monkey actor, who they held on a chain lead, and have asked the band to pull the new music video, the Mirror reported.
Even after a spokesperson for the band has said that no animals were hurt in the making of the video and all the rules were followed, the charity has written to the band, which would soon be made public.
The open letter says that it was "saddening" to see the use of a wild animal in the video, as it was a "damaging and destructive practice" that has been condemned by wildlife experts worldwide.
The letter continues to say that the isolation of the animals from their mothers could lead to behavioural and psychological problems, and the chimpanzee they were working was juvenile, which could make it dangerous in future.
We ask you, One Direction, with the following you have, the influence you can create, with all the potential for transforming this situation into something good by taking a stance, to please make the compassionate and well-informed decision to end your use of performing wild animals and pull the video now.
