At least 44 people were killed and 120 others wounded when 11 car bombs exploded in Baghdad on Thursday, Iraqi security and medical officials confirmed.

According to The Nation, two car bombs exploded in Central Baghdad's Sinaa Street. Other bomb explosions took place in Graiat, Husseiniyah, Baghdad Jadida, Maamal, Dura, Shurta al-Rabea and Bayaa.

According to the report, more than 390 people have been killed so far this month and over 5,100 since the beginning of 2013.

Iraq seems to be relapsing into an intense Shiite-Sunni bloodshed that claimed thousands of lives in 2006-2007.
