Steve McQueen-helmed '12 Years a Slave' has won the best picture trophy at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
The highly acclaimed slave drama, that tells the story of Solomon Northup, who was a free man before being abducted and sold into slavery, starred Chiwetel Ejiofor in the lead role.
Actress Lupita Nyong'o has won the best supporting actress trophy and John Ridley has been awarded the 'Best Adapted Screenplay' Oscar for the same film.
