According to the Delhi Police, on an average nearly 20 children go missing from the national capital on a daily basis, linking the disappeared kids to the human trafficking mafia.
"It is shocking that such a large number of children are being lost daily in the national capital itself. Where do they go? It's a big concern," said Delhi Police Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Anil Shukla, speaking at an international conference entitled 'Emerging challenges in an urbanising India' here.
Shukla further linked the missing of children to the human trafficking mafia and added that human trafficking has become a very serious issue.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Jharkhand Additional Director General of Police Satya Narayan Pradhan also agreed with Shukla, pointing out that his state is a big victim of this mafia.
"Jharkhand is a great victim to human trafficking. The mafia has a great hand in this, having trafficked lakhs of women, mainly tribal, in the guise of domestic helps by the so-called placement agencies," he said.
Pradhan further said even some highly influential politicians are part of the mafia, pointing out that his team had recently arrested even a state minister.
