The International Women's Development Agency (IWDA) has come up with its 'End the Right to Rape' campaign this International Women's Day to outlaw marital rape.
The UN has reported that there are around 142 countries across the world including European powerhouses Spain, Italy and Germany who do not explicitly outlaw a husband raping his wife, News.com.au reported.
Notably, the data of 2011-2012 Progress of the World's Women, shows that no country in the Middle East has outlawed it, whereas even some western countries have failed to act upon it.
Bettina Baldeschi, spokeswoman of IWDA said that when governments fail to implement this law, they contribute to the perception that rape within marriage is acceptable, that's why they have come up with a campaign that demands an end to impunity.
The IWDA has asked Australians to sign the petition demanding the change in law by telling the world that no man has the right to rape, after which they will take the petition to the UN Headquarters in New York for the global gathering of the Commission on the Status of Women in a bid to pressure all governments around the world to take action.
The campaign has already gathered some movement on social media with people tweeting support under the hashtag "EndTheRightToRape".
