75 pc voting in MP, Mizoram assembly polls

As much as 75 per cent voting was recorded in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram assembly polls till 5 pm on Wednesday, said the Election Commission of India (ECI) here. Polling in both the states remained largely peaceful, added the ECI.

According to the ECI, in Madhya Pradesh, where 230 Assembly seats are at stake, 75 per cent votes were polled in 227 constituencies while Baihal constituency in Balaghat district witnessed 78 per cent polling, 79.07 per cent in Lanji and 80.06 per cent in Paraswada Assembly constituencies. In 2013 assembly elections, MP had witnessed 72.13 per cent polling.

In Madhya Pradesh, 2,899 candidates were in the fray including 250 female and five third gender candidates. Out of a total of 65,367 polling booths spread across MP, 3,046 booths were completely managed by women poll officials.

Mizoram saw a voter turnout of 75 per cent till 5 pm, where more than 10,000 elderly people came out of their homes to cast their votes. According to the ECI, Mizoram in the last assembly elections in 2013 had recorded 83.41 per cent polling.

Mizoram has 40 Assembly constituencies spread across eight districts, out of which 39 seats are reserved for scheduled tribes, while one seat is for general category people. There were 7,70,395 lakh voters in the state including 3.75 lakh males and 3.95 lakh females.

ECI informed that there were 1,179 polling stations including 15 special polling stations set up at the border for displaced group living in Tripura camp. There were 36 vulnerable hamlets and 47 critical polling stations. The displaced Bru tribal community, currently sheltered in Tripura, participated in voting in large numbers.
