American golf great Jack Nicklaus proved that age is no barrier for him when it comes to swinging the club as the 75-year-old hit a hole-in-one to divert attention from this year's Masters cast at the famous tournament's Par-3 contest.
Nicklaus, who owns a record six Masters crowns, found the cup on the 119-metre fourth hole to the excitement of a roaring crowd.
Nicklaus, nicknamed the Golden Bear, was playing alongside South African Gary Player and American veteran Ben Crenshaw, a two-time winner making his 44th and final Masters appearance this week, New.com.au reported.
Nicklaus's short iron shot landed beyond the pin, the ball bounced twice and then backed up in a 7-metre roll to the hole, which left the golfer delighted and he was cheered long and loud on the Par 3 patch.
No Par-3 champion has ever gone on to win the Masters, a superstition so strong that Tiger Woods once didn't bother turning up for a play-off in the short event. Woods played the Par 3 event for the first time in more than a decade to enjoy the fun with his son Charlie and daughter Sam as caddies, the report added.
