Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday promised to bring back the battery operated e-rickshaws to the roads of the national capital.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party said that they will provide employment. In Delhi, there are 2.5 lakh e-rickshaws but for the past four months, this government has kept these 2.5 lakh e-rickshaw drivers unemployed," Kejriwal said at a public rally.

"The Aam Aadmi Party will come back to power and will bring back the e-rickshaws to the roads," he added.

The AAP chief also promised to reduce electricity bills in the city.

"The last time [we were in power], we had reduced your electricity bills. We will come back again and we will reduce the electricity bills," Kejriwal said.

In December, the Union Cabinet had approved an ordinance to legalize the battery-operated vehicles.

The move to legalize e-rickshaws came after the Delhi High Court on July 31 banned plying of the vehicles in Delhi on the grounds that they were a traffic and safety hazard.
