A Chinese tourist, who was kidnapped last year in an area close to insurgency-prone regions of Pakistan, was rescued by the intelligence agencies.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the media on Sunday that the Chinese tourist was recovered on Saturday night after a successful operation and would be handed over to the Chinese embassy in Islamabad anytime soon, the Dawn reported.
The man, whose details were not given out, was abducted in May last year from Daraban in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the border with Baluchistan province and the South Waziristan tribal district.
According to reports, a faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has accepted that it was behind the abduction.
A video released by militants earlier this year had supposed to show a Chinese tourist being abducted by Taliban-allied fighters a year ago, asking for his government to help him to be released.
The cases of kidnappings and abduction have been rising in Pakistan, although it is very unusual for Chinese to be targeted.
