The distraught family of Preeti Rathi, the girl who succumbed to her injuries after an unidentified man threw acid on her face, has refused to cremate her until a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is launched in the case.

Preeti's father, Amar Singh Rathi, remained a muted figure after Preeti's body was brought inside a coffin to their residence.

Stating three demands, Amar Singh Rathi said that the decision to not cremate her body was taken after discussions with other family members.

"Our first demand is that there should be an enquiry by the CBI. The second is that, as compensation one member of the family should be placed on her post. And third, her cremation should be done with complete state honours," said Amar Singh Rathi.

In a brutal incident, an unidentified man threw acid on Preeti's face, as she stepped down from her train at a railway station in Mumbai on May 2.

After fighting the burns and a failed lung for a month, Preeti, a Delhi girl, succumbed to her injuries. Her body was flown back to New Delhi on Monday.

"She never told us anything. She just said that the man who has done this should be brought before me," said an inconsolable, Roshi Rathi, Preeti's mother.

The family had recently met interior minister of western Maharashtra state, R. R. Patil, who had assured them that the country's federal police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would probe this incident.
