As the fight for the post of the President begins, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday expressed confidence over Ram Nath Kovind marking the victory, whereas Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati was elated with the fact that both the nominees are from the Dalit community.
Adityanath asserted that Kovind will win with huge majority, whereas Mayawati said that whosoever wins, it will be a win for Dalits and for their party.
"We have no doubt over the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) nominee, Ram Nath Kovind, winning the election with a huge majority. It is a matter of pride for Uttar Pradesh to give the President to India for the first time," Adityanath said after casting his vote.
"The nominees of both, the NDA and the Opposition, are from the Dalit community. This is the first time that Dalit candidates are being pitched from both the sides. Losing-winning is different. But the good part is that, a Dalit will become the President of India. It is a huge victory for our movement and party," Mayawati said.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers K.P. Maurya and Dinesh Sharma were also optimistic regarding Kovind's victory.
"I am confident that Ram Nath Kovind will appear as the winner with huge difference," Maurya said.
"Ramnath Kovind will win. It won't be surprising if other also support him," said Dinesh Sharma.
The voting for the Presidential polls began from 10 a.m. and will last till 5 p.m.
The counting of the votes will take place on July 20.
