Afghan President appeals for regional cooperation in fighting terrorism

Describing terrorism as a common threat for regional players, Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani has stressed on the need for regional cooperation to counter the menace.

"Terrorism neither recognizes nation, religion nor border. It is a common threat and we in Afghanistan are in the frontline of the fight against terrorism," Tolo News quoted him as saying.

Ghani who is on his two-day trip to Tajikistan held meetings with Tajikistan officials and signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU) on economic and regional cooperation.

According to a press statement issued by the Presidential Palace, Ghani put his weight behind Central Asia-South Asia electricity project CASA-1000.

"CASA-1000 is not only a project, but a symbol of our resolve and it will reunify the Asia that has fallen apart," he said.

While Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon pressed that that they will strive hard to make the border between the country as a border of stability, friendship and cooperation, he also stressed the need to fight against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
