Afghanistan has sent 198 tons of fresh and dried fruit to India through the Afghan-India Air Corridor Program since June 18, reported TOLO News.

The process of transferring goods to India via the Air Corridor Program has continued on a regular basis, office of the Afghanistan President said in a statement.

The operation of the flights we recently conducted were in a very smooth and standard manner. So far, we were able to export 198 tons of goods through this program to India," the statement added.

The latest flight, which is also the 21st flight to date, is carrying at least 40 tons of fresh and dried fruit.

The decision to establish an Air Freight Corridor between Afghanistan and India was taken in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ghani in September 2016 during the latter's visit to India.

Major imports from Afghanistan to India are fresh fruits, dried fruits, nuts, raisins, vegetables, oil seeds, precious and semi-precious stones, etc.

Earlier, in January 2015, India had announced its decision to allow Afghan Trucks to enter the Indian Territory through Atari land check post for offloading and loading goods from and to Afghanistan.
