Three years after he was sacked from the role, all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been reappointed as the captain of Pakistan's Twenty20 cricket team.
Afridi was removed from the post in 2011 following an altercation with then coach Waqar Younis and the Pakistan Cricket Board. He had led the Pakistani cricket team to the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 in 2010, reported the BBC.
Although Younis still occupies the position of the country's head coach but Afridi expressed his desire to bury the past and begin afresh. He said that he will develop a "fearless approach" in the players and get rid of the "fear of loss" as the captain. He added that the Twenty20 format was not for the "chicken-hearted player."
The 34-year-old cricketer will occupy the position with immediate effect, replacing former captain, Mohammad Hafeez, who resigned in April following Pakistan's exit from the World T20 in Bangladesh.
Afridi will lead the Pakistani T20 team until the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India.
