All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supporters pelted stones at Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi's residence on Friday, after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was convicted in the disproportionate assets case.
The complaint against Jayalalithaa had been filed in 1998 by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy and the DMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu at that time, had directed the state vigilance department to file an FIR against her.
Earlier today, a Bangalore Special Court in its verdict convicted Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, under Prevention of Corruption Act.
This court's verdict means that Jayalalithaa stands disqualified as an MLA and therefore, she will have to step down as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
Reports say that along with her the court also found her ex-aide V K Sasikala guilty. Meanwhile, the quantum of sentence is expected to be pronounced by the Court this afternoon around 3 p.m.
The AIADMK chief has been convicted for obtaining assets worth almost Rs 66 crore through dishonest means during her first tenure as Chief Minister between 1991 and 1996.
