Speaking ahead of England's first of five Tests against India, skipper Alastair Cook said he has no intention of stepping down from the post, and is determined to "throw everything" into the role.

Cook's leadership has been severely criticised in the wake of England failing to win their past eight Test matches.

Cook, 29, said Tuesday that until the selectors decided he was not the right man for the job, he would continue to lead and attempt to change the result, which did not make for good viewing at present.

According to the BBC, Cook has led England in 23 matches, had nine defeats, seven draws and seven wins.

The first Test against India will be played from today at Trent Bridge, Nottinham.

Cook said that he knew that he had to score runs at the top of the order, and added that it was crucial for England to start well.
