National champion Kachari Bhagyabati marched into the quarterfinals of the AIBA World Championship, thrashing Germany's Irina-Nicoletta Schonberger 4-1 in the first round here on Sunday.
The girl from Assam who recently clinched the Ahmet Comert International Boxing Tournament trophy in Istanbul proved her prowess and went on to clinch a match through a split decision (4:1) that went in her favour.
"The support I got from the fans, officials were unbelievable. We all give our best when we perform for our country. But, it is the support that matters at the end of the day. Schonberger was taller than me and had more advantages. I had to be tactical to defeat her tonight."
Bhagyabati will take on Columbian Jessica Sinisterra in the quarterfinals, who beat Ukrainian Anastasiia Chernokolenko 5-0.
