All India Students' Association (AISA) activists on Tuesday protested against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) chairman.

The protest, which took place outside the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in the national capital, saw the activists holding placards encouraging Chauhan to leave, amidst cries of 'go back'. Other banners suggested a host of alternates for the top post, including eminent film-makers Gulzar and Shyam Benegal.

Students of the FTII have been protesting against Chauhan's appointment due to his affiliation to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and his lack of experience and stature. A billboard at the entrance of the institute had last week asked Chauhan to resign and leave.
