Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh called a 'Mahapanchayat' with his supporters in New Delhi on Tuesday at his 12, Tughlaq Road residence to chalk out a strategy about converting his government bungalow into a memorial for his father and former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.
The police have reportedly declared the 'Mahapanchayat' illegal, while security has also been tightened around the area.
The controversy over converting the bungalow into a memorial started after New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) issued a notice to Ajit Singh asking him to vacate his official bungalow, in which he has been staying for the past 36 years after Choudhary Charan Singh passed away.
The government had disconnected the water and power supply of his residence after he refused to vacate the premises.
Meanwhile, reports say that he will now shift to a three-bedroom house in south Delhi, even though he is still insisting upon a memorial for his late father.
