The Cabinet's decision clearing reservation for the Jat community in government jobs, was welcomed by Civil Aviation Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Ajit Singh, who was also keen on the cause of reservation for Jats, expressed his gratitude to the community for supporting him in his struggle.

"I want to express my gratitude to the whole Jat society who took part in this struggle, and they finally got justice. The Mandal Commission has put Jats, Ahirs, Gujjars and Lodhas in the same category, and the Jats had not been granted reservation till last year. I want to thank Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh," Singh said

Expressing gratitude to ruling Congress party, Hooda, welcomed the government's decision and pointed out that reservation under backward classes was the right of Jats.

"The whole community is thankful to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi (Congress Vice-President) and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for their decision. It was the right of the community for which they had been struggling for a long time. Today they got it," said Hooda.

The Union Cabinet on Sunday cleared the ordinance for Jat reservation in government jobs.
