Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Wednesday asked Sikhs to produce more children. He said every Sikh couple should have at least four children, as the Sikh population is growing at a much slower rate in comparison to other communities.
The Jathedar said that if Sikhs don't produce four children per couple, their number would be drastically down, and it will create many problems for the community.
The Jathedar said he was issuing the appeal because he was concerned over the 'decline' in the Sikh population in the past years.
He said the Sikh population has reduced substantially since the time of Sikh Gurus. He blamed family planning for it and alleged that the central government had been advocating that fewer children should be produced.
He said that 'Hum Do, Hamare Do' slogans does not augur well with the Sikh community. The Jathedar feels that increased population will help in the propagation of the religion and the development of the country.
