Mocking Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's statement that hinted at an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said the Samajwadi Party chief does not know the meaning of 'Rakshabandhan' as well as 'gathbandhan'.
"Akhilesh Yadav does not know the meaning of 'Rakshabandhan' and 'gathbandhan'. If the Samajwadi Party and the BSP form an alliance, then I hope the incident of Holika dehen does not repeat itself," BJP leader Lalji Tandon told ANI, referring to the ritual of 'Holika dehen' performed during the festival of Holi.
He added that by making such statements, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is forcing the Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav to touching Mayawati's feet.
"The way he is treating his father is very wrong," Tandon said.
Earlier, in what can be termed as a grand revelation, Akhilesh Yadav hinted at sewing an alliance with the BSP, if need be, in order to form the state government, and most importantly, in a bid to keep the BJP out of fray.
"We are sure that the SP- Congress will win maximum seats in the assembly. But, we don't know about the circumstances after results. So, let's see. If it's required to form a government... Nobody would want President rule in the state and that the BJP runs it through a remote control. Nobody would want that," Akhilesh told a TV Channel when asked about the possibility of the alliance.
This comes a day before the results of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections come out.
