Former England batsman David Gower has welcomed Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir's return to international cricket, saying it is good for the sport.

Amir, along with former skipper Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, were found guilty of various offences of corrupt behaviour relating to the Lord's Test between England and Pakistan in August 2010 by the independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal in February 2011.

Insisting it would be unfair for Amir to be treated in the same way as the other two, the 59-year-old pointed out that the former has done everything right to reach at this stage since his return from the five-year-ban in September last year.

Gower also acknowledged Amir's involvement in the re-education of Pakistan cricketers, saying he had been held up as a good example in guiding the players to not indulge in illegal activities, Pakpassion.net reported.

Describing Amir as a 'talented' player, Gower, who represented England between 1978-1992, admitted the Pakistani player bowls really well and that everyone loves to watch him perform.

The left-hander, who served a prison sentence in the UK, went on to display an impressive form since his return to the international cricket , having scalped a total of 16 wickets in two ODIs and 11 T20Is, including a sensational 3 for 18 against India at the Asia Cup in February.

Meanwhile, Amir made his comeback to Test arena in his side's remarkable 75-run win over England at Lord's in the ongoing four-match Test series. The 24-year-old marked his return at the 'Home of Cricket' with a decent performance, claiming three wickets overall, including the last one of the gripping clash.
