Amit Shah's offence is of a serious nature: Majeed Memon

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Memon on Wednesday said the offences for which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah has been chargesheeted are of a serious nature.

"The offences are of serious nature, these are the offences which are hurting the integrity of the Indian society, its secularism, its brotherhood and its harmonious atmosphere," Memon said.

"The fact that the chargesheet has been filed for various offences under the penal code against Amit Shah presupposes that there is sufficient material collected by the investigating agencies which could sustain charge. This is an important milestone in criminal investigation and trial," he added.

Memon further said that it is a matter of serious concern that such an important person of the BJP has been chargesheeted.

"I am afraid that if the national president of a political party can be charged for such a serious offence then I think it is time for BJP including the prime Minister to consider this seriously," he added.

Earlier today, the Uttar Pradesh Police filed a chargesheet against Shah based on a video in which he allegedly made a hate speech during the run up to the 2014 Lok Shabha elections.
