Ananth Kumar wants MP to have chapter on lifestyle diseases in school curriculum

Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar on Sunday asked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to introduce a chapter on lifestyle diseases in school curriculum. With this move, Madhya Pradesh would become the first state in the country to have such a topic discussed at the school level.

Addressing a workshop on echocardiography, Kumar said, "Cardiac diseases have become an epidemic in our country. Therefore, the only answer to this is prevention and cure. For prevention we need to create awareness among students by including a chapter on lifestyle: from diabetes to blood pressure to cardiovascular diseases.

Kumar further said, "These days, students prefer to have junk food rather than home cooked food and spend their time on gadgets, thereby leading a sedentary lifestyle." Kumar added that a pharmaceutical park will also come up in the state.

Chouhan, who was also present at the workshop, said they would like to go ahead with the proposal.

According to World health Organisation (WHO) reports, chronic complications of weight kill about 3.4 million adults annually across the world.
