England skipper Alastair Cook has said that star bowler James Anderson will not play in the fifth and last Ashes Test against Australia at the Oval after failing to recover from a side strain.
Confirming the news, Cook said that the 33-year-old is making good progress in recovery, adding that he will probably take another one week to get back on the field again, the BBC reported.
Cook also confirmed that England pacer Mark Wood will join Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in the pace attack in the fifth Ashes Test, starting from August 20.
Anderson was injured on day two at Edgbaston as England inched towards the victory after reducing the tourists to 168-7 at stumps.
England have now regained the Ashes series after claiming an emphatic innings and 78-run win over Australia on the third day of the fourth Test at a jubilant Trent Bridge.
