An anti-Gorkhaland, non-political youth organisation, Joy Bangla, on Sunday held a torch rally, protesting against the killing of a Sub-Inspector in clash between Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) and the police.
Earlier on Friday, there was a clash between GJM faction led by Bimal Gurung and police, demanding strong action against the former.
During the clash, Sub-Inspector Amitava Malik (30) and four other policemen were injured. They were rushed to a local hospital, where Malik succumbed to injuries.
The clash broke out when the police was conducting raids at Tukvar near Patlaybas to arrest GJM Chief Gurung who has been hiding since August after cases under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were registered against him for his alleged involvement in various bomb blasts in Darjeeling and adjoining areas.
