Apple's share of the worldwide tablet market has reportedly sunk to its lowest point of 29.6 percent, as it continues to battle it out against rival tablet makers.
Research firm IDC revealed that iPad shipments for the third quarter were 14.1 million units, up less than one percent from the same period a year earlier, but the company's share of the tablet market fell to 29.6 percent from 40.2 percent a year earlier
According to AllThingsD, rival Samsung, Asus, Lenovo and Acer have been basking in the loss of the tech giant as they all saw big year-over-year gains in shipments and market share.
Samsung's shipping of 9.7 million tablets led its market share to 20.4 percent, showing a gain of 123 percent compared to last year.
IDC analyst Jitesh Ubrani said that with two 7.9-inch iPad mini models starting at 299 dollars and 399 dollars, and two 9.7-inch standard iPad models starting at 399 dollars and 499 dollars, Apple is taking steps to appeal to multiple segments.
