Arsenal fears fans' backlash as Wenger fails to make big-name signings

Arsenal is reportedly worried that manager Arsene Wenger might end up failing to spend a single cent in transfer fees this summer after missing out on a succession of big-name targets.

According to the Mirror, Wenger has re-signed Mathieu Flamini, who was without a club after leaving AC Milan, and has handed him a three-year contract worth 30,000 pounds-a-week, along with rookie striker Yaya Sanogo, who also joined as a free agent.

However, the report said that there are concerns that Flamini and Sanogo may be Wenger's only two deals for this summer despite having a 70 million-pound transfer kitty at his disposal.

Although Arsenal is still keeping a close watch on Real Madrid trio Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil before the transfer window closes on Monday, they have reportedly dropped their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye due to his 20 million-pound valuation.

Arsenal, which needs a replacement on the left flank after Lukas Podolski was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury, have also moved away from signing Valencia keeper Vicente Guaita after having a six million-pound bid turned down.

The report also said that Arsenal is also far more making a deal on former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou and Manchester United star Nani and is in fear of causing a major fans' backlash, especially if they lose at home to big-spending rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday's clash.
